Welcome to my 1st ever Crested Wave Fishing Report. 31/07/2010
First of all I would like to apologise to anybody who may have previously tried to access this section of my webpage and found it empty.
It is a fairly new addition to the site that I asked to be added a few weeks back, but since it was set up I have been so busy with the summer season that I have just about had the time to answer my normal enquiries on a day to day basis plus operating the boat as well.
As I expect to be steadily busy over the next few weeks I shall be limiting my reports to once a week, probably every Saturday as that is my normal day off, but whenever I get the time (and can keep my eyes open) I shall update it as much as possible.

So, what's been happening this week?
Hmm well, not a lot!
Up until about a week ago the fishing was fairly consistant for this time of year, on the bottom anyway. With the ever present Stingrays, eagle rays, butterfly rays,Angel Shark aka. Monkfish, Small bream, Lizard fish, Greater weavers(big enough to eat!) + some Tope, Smoothound and hammerheads with the bonus Big Snapper thrown in plus plenty of baitfish like Mackerel and Bogas to use for livebaits.

The trolling has not been the best season, there have been plenty of Skipjack tuna and Dorado fairly close in all along the coast which have brought in some of the bigger predators, but the Marlin have been too clever for me so far.
I had the 1st strike of the season way back in February only too see it swim away, but I was very confident of a good season as that was very early in the year and the previous 3 years I have been the 1st charter boat here to claim the first catch of the season.
How wrong I was, every Marlin we have hooked up we have lost, even after an hour and twenty minute battle that slipped the hook 10 meters from the boat, some people would class that as a catch but unless you have that leader in your hands its a 'No Goal'.
Anyway there is still plenty of the Marlin season left for me to catch up, and I am not alone as only 1 boat here has caught 4 Blue Marlin with the only other 3 caught on different boats, so tecnically I am only 1 fish away from joint 2nd place, you have to look on the bright side!
This last week has been very frustrating, with perfect sea conditions ie, calm, gentle currents good clear blue water good dead baits but not a lot of action. We have been catching fish but just not as many as we should be considering the conditions.

Take this as an example; we had a full day Big game/shark fishing trip on Thursday and when we done the Big game fishing in the morning, we drew a blank. Then we stopped the boat to do the shark fishing (in perfect conditions with good baits and plenty of good chum) and blanked again.

Then we set the lures up for the return trip looking for Tuna, Dorado and Marlin and guess what, we caught a Mako shark on one of the Marlin lures!
So not as we planned and not a very good result considering the effort we put in, but that’s fishing!

The other days have been a mixture of mainly small Stingrays, eagle rays and a very good fighting big Butterfly ray that topped 100lb, which is about as big as they get plus lots of small stuff, and I think it was last Monday we hooked into what I think was a very good sized Pargo Or Amberjack but the guy playing it was a bit in experienced and let the line go slack once too often and away it went. The makerel have been a bit elusive this past week so we have not been able to do much 'Livebait' fishing. Normally this does not make much difference but it's the only thing I can think of.

We have only had a few Skipjacks on the trolling and 1 big Dorado(Dolphin Fish) which is puzzling as there was boat on an island not 50 miles from us that raised 16 Spearfish caught and released 4 of them plus 2 Blue Marlin, all in 1 day!!! But we just have to patient as it normally evens out in the end.

The trolling may pick up this week as I just heard today of one of the local small commercial fishing boats catching over 300 kilos of Albacore tuna yesterday and they avg. between 25-35 kilos, so good sport and I will be setting out a few more medium tuna sized baits tommorrow for sure.

So then, as of tommoroww I will keep a more up to date record and hopefully get back with a better result next week.
All the best and keep an eye on this report for an honest account of whats happening here in the south of Tenerife.

Bye for now'
