I will keep this one short... 'Bottom Fishing'... Mostly small Stingrays avg about 10lb with a few normal ones between 20 to 70lb and the biggest approx 120lb. Eagle rays between 15 and 30lb a couple of Angel shark and small hammerheads. Quite a few sea bream, Lizard fish, Greater Weavers ( big enough for the pan) and a few Amberjacks. We have had plenty of fresh mackerel bait lately which is always a bonus. 'Trolling/ Big game fishing'... The trolling has picked up but no great fireworks, we have been mainly catching Skipjack tunas between 4 and 12lb plus a few Dorado, and lost a couple of bigger ones: one of which was probably a Yello fin the way it took off, but not 100% sure, it was big anyway! Marlin,Ha! this is one of the worst seasons I have known for them, I had a Marlin 'Hit' one of our baits about 10 days ago and then just dissapear, thats about the 5th time this season, not including the actual 'Hook ups', but even those included a very poor season. I really cant understand it as there are Skipjacks and small Dorado about which are like Marlin chocolates, I think it must be this recession, and they could not afford the fare to the Canary Islands this Summer! I remember this happening about 8 or 9 years and we did not even see a skipjack, but it all came good at the end of the summer season and we had some 'Bumper' catches for a long period after, so we have still got our chins up Off for a Sharking trip tomorrow, 40 kilos of my 'Magic' chum, new traces and hooks all set up, Skipjacks for bait, good 'Blue Water' and the weather reports are good for a calm gentle drift, fingers crossed and I'll let you know what happens. All the best Mick. |
